2021.10.20 23:39 504Cory What is up w/ some of these restaurant workers? Why do they waste your time on purpose?

Story time: Last order of the day, I go to pickup some food from a fast food type chain in a gas station. I tell the cashier that I'm picking, give them the order name, show them the app, then wait for like 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, I check again w/ the cashier and she laughs and says the order was ready 5 minutes ago why didn't say anything? Just ended up one starring the restaurant after getting into a brief argument w/ her. Why tf do restaurant workers play games w/ delivery drivers this shit doesn't even make sense. Any1 else had an experience like this?

2021.10.20 23:39 HumptyEggy (Spoilers Extended) Thoughts on the Kings of Winter, the Night's King, the Last Hero, and Roose

(Spoilers Extended) Thoughts on the Kings of Winter, the Night's King, the Last Hero, and Roose So in the books, it says the following:
The ancient crown of the Kings of Winter had been lost three centuries ago, yielded up to Aegon the Conqueror when Torrhen Stark knelt in submission. What Aegon had done with it no man could say. Lord Hoster’s smith had done his work well, and Robb’s crown looked much as the other was said to have looked in the tales told of the Stark kings of old; an open circlet of hammered bronze incised with the runes of the First Men, surmounted by nine black iron spikes wrought in the shape of longswords. Of gold and silver and gemstones, it had none; bronze and iron were the metals of winter, dark and strong to fight against the cold.
I theorized before that the original may have been a crown of twelve or thirteen longswords, worn by the Night's King (13th man to lead the Night's Watch, a sort of Knights of the Round Table type of deal), and broken by Brandon the Breaker, leaving it as appearing as an open circlet with nine longswords. But I didn't even know an illustration existed:
The Art Of George RR Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire: Crown of Winter, illustrated by John Goodenough. Fantasy Flight Games
The illustration above shows a closed crown, not an open circlet, and thirteen longswords, not nine. You would get something similar to the description if for example you took off the front part.
I am really doubtful that the crown illustration wasn't approved by George to begin with, otherwise how could they have ended up with that illustration? The description is very clear and singular.
The Last Hero Which brings me to another theory I've had (and I'm sure others): that the Last Hero went on to become the Night's King.
“Now these were the days before the Andals came, and long before the women fled across the narrow sea from the cities of the Rhoyne, and the hundred kingdoms of those times were the kingdoms of the First Men, who had taken these lands from the children of the forest. Yet here and there in the fastness of the woods the children still lived in their wooden cities and hollow hills, and the faces in the trees kept watch. So as cold and death filled the earth, the last hero determined to seek out the children, in the hopes that their ancient magics could win back what the armies of men had lost. He set out into the dead lands with a sword, a horse, a dog, and a dozen companions. For years he searched until he despaired of ever finding the children of the forest in their secret cities. One by one his friends died, and his horse, and finally even his dog, and his sword froze so hard the blade snapped when he tried to use it. And the Others smelled the hot blood in him and came silent on his trail, stalking him with packs of pale white spiders big as hounds -"
Old Nan's story ends there, but then we have:
“The armor of the Others is proof against most ordinary blades, if the tales can be believed, and their own swords are so cold they shatter steel. Fire will dismay them, though, and they are vulnerable to obsidian. I found one account of the Long Night that spoke of the last hero slaying Others with a blade of dragonsteel. Supposedly they could not stand against it.
“Dragonsteel?” The term was new to Jon. “Valyrian steel?”
“That was my first thought as well.”
Dragonsteel doesn't sound like dragonglass, which is brittle and glass, not steel. Valyria did not exist back then, and there's zero indication that Valyrian Steel was not born out of an older method.
The Others were closing in on the Last Hero, his sword broken, his companions and dog dead. But later he has a blade of dragonsteel the Others can't stand against.
If people say "The Children of the Forest surely saved him in the nick of time!", I see no such indication, let alone why that would lead the Last Hero having a sword of dragonsteel.
"Dragonglass," Osha named it as she sat down beside Luwin, bandagings in hand.
"Obsidian," Maester Luwin insisted, holding out his wounded arm. "Forged in the fires of the gods, far below the earth. The children of the forest hunted with that, thousands of years ago. The children worked no metal. In place of mail, they wore long shirts of woven leaves and bound their legs in bark, so they seemed to melt into the wood. In place of swords, they carried blades of obsidian."
Night's King
The gathering gloom put Bran in mind of another of Old Nan's stories, the tale of Night's King. He had been the thirteenth man to lead the Night's Watch, she said; a warrior who knew no fear. "And that was the fault in him," she would add, "for all men must know fear." A woman was his downfall; a woman glimpsed from atop the Wall, with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars. Fearing nothing, he chased her and caught her and loved her, though her skin was cold as ice, and when he gave his seed to her he gave his soul as well.
He brought her back to the Nightfort and proclaimed her a queen and himself her king, and with strange sorceries he bound his Sworn Brothers to his will. For thirteen years they had ruled, Night's King and his corpse queen, till finally the Stark of Winterfell and Joramun of the wildlings had joined to free the Watch from bondage. After his fall, when it was found he had been sacrificing to the Others, all records of Night's King had been destroyed, his very name forbidden.
The above sounds like a good fit to fill in the blanks of the Last Hero's story: the Others closed in on him, as all his companions and even his dog had died, he could not survive, yet he did, and returned to the Night's Fort with the woman with skin white as the moon and eyes blue like stars and ruled as king. So essentially, there was a pact or he was turned.
Later, Brandon the Breaker freed the Watch from "bondage" by defeating the Night's King. A slightly different wording in The Winds of Winter:
Yet over the thousands of years of its existence as the chief seat of the Watch, the Nightfort has accrued many legends of its own, some of which have been recounted in Archmaester Harmune’s Watchers on the Wall. The oldest of these tales concern the legendary Night’s King, the thirteenth Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, who was alleged to have bedded a sorceress pale as a corpse and declared himself a king. For thirteen years the Night’s King and his “corpse queen” ruled together, before King of Winter, Brandon the Breaker, (in alliance, it is said, with the King-Beyond-the-Wall, Joramun) brought them down. Thereafter, he obliterated the Night’s King’s very name from memory.
But when does the Last Hero end up with the dragonsteel sword the Others could not stand against?
Is that why the Night's King's name was obliterated from history? So that the "new Last Hero" figure who forged the sword could ascribe to themselves the previous one's "heroic deeds"? Or maybe to salvage the reputation of the "Kings of Winter"? Brandon the Breaker may have "retaken" the crown, but kept it as is; broken as the crown stories now remember.
There may be a tie to Azor Ahai in there. I thought maybe the Night's King was not only the Last Hero "turned" but later "Azor Ahai", as in he went on to break his own curse by killing the Corpse Bride (her skin was white like the moon, Nissa Nissa' cry left a crack across the face of the moon), and then went on to fight the Others as he had originally sought to with the resulting new forged sword. As such, he would have erased his name from history to save his reputation. So he was the Last Hero, then the Night's King, then "Azor Ahai" or Brandon the Breaker (heck maybe he's Coldhands!). But then I wouldn't see how the crown ended up broken unless it was his Queen's and he hit her in the head...
Kings of Winter When we read the stories of the Kings of Winter, one point that keeps coming back is how obsessed they are with taking the daughters of those they defeat.
Ancient ballads, amongst the oldest to be found in the archives of the Citadel of Oldtown, tell of how one King of Winter drove the giants from the North, whilst another felled the skinchanger Gaven Greywolf and his kin in “the savage War of the Wolves,” but we have only the word of singers that such kings and such battles ever existed.
More historical proof exists for the war between the Kings of Winter and the Barrow Kings to their south, who styled themselves the Kings of the First Men and claimed supremacy over all First Men everywhere, even the Starks themselves. Runic records suggest that their struggle, dubbed the Thousand Years War by the singers, was actually a series of wars that lasted closer to two hundred years than a thousand, ending when the last Barrow King bent his knee to the King of Winter, and gave him the hand of his daughter in marriage.
[...]
Amongst the houses reduced from royals to vassals we can count the Flints of Breakstone Hill, the Slates of Blackpool, the Umbers of Last Hearth, the Lockes of Oldcastle, the Glovers of Deepwood Motte, the Fishers of the Stony Shore, the Ryders of the Rills … and mayhaps even the Blackwoods of Raventree, whose own family traditions insist they once ruled most of the wolfswood before being driven from their lands by the Kings of Winter (certain runic records support this claim, if Maester Barneby’s translations can be trusted).
Chronicles found in the archives of the Night’s Watch at the Nightfort (before it was abandoned) speak of the war for Sea Dragon Point, wherein the Starks brought down the Warg King and his inhuman allies, the children of the forest. When the Warg King’s last redoubt fell, his sons were put to the sword, along with his beasts and greenseers, whilst his daughters were taken as prizes by their conquerors.
House Greenwood, House Towers, House Amber, and House Frost met similar ends, together with a score of lesser houses and petty kings whose very names are lost to history.
[...]
House Greenwood, House Towers, House Amber, and House Frost met similar ends, together with a score of lesser houses and petty kings whose very names are lost to history. Yet the bitterest foes of Winterfell were undoubtedly the Red Kings of the Dreadfort, those grim lords of House Bolton whose domains of old stretched from the Last River to the White Knife, and as far south as the Sheepshead Hills.
The enmity between the Starks and Boltons went back to the Long Night itself, it is claimed. The wars between these two ancient families were legion, and not all ended in victory for House Stark. King Royce Bolton, Second of His Name, is said to have taken and burned Winterfell itself; his namesake and descendant Royce IV (remembered by history as Royce Redarm, for his habit of plunging his arm into the bellies of captive foes to pull out their entrails with his bare hand) did the same three centuries later. Other Red Kings were reputed to wear cloaks made from the skins of Stark princes they had captured and flayed.
A few interesting things:
1- They fought against what seemed to big time skinchangers/wargs. The Warg King (potentially Gave Greywolf) sounds like it happened BEFORE the Last Hero story since in his story the CotF are only found north of the wall. So it would be Warg King/Greywolf defeated and CotF retreat north of the wall, Last Hero goes north to look for the CotF to beat the Others, gets turned into the Night's King, Night's King defeated and name erased from history.
2- They keep killing the men/sons of other houses, and take their daughters.
3- They got flayed by the Boltons who'd wear their skins as cloaks. This sounds like either a jape against the Starks for being skinchangers, or the Boltons being skinchangers themselves, or being jealous of skinchanging powers of the Starks.
My feeling is that more than one house descended from the same source, maybe even descended from the Night's King and Queen. The Kings of Winter wiped out all others who shared the same "blood" because they wanted to wipe out the competition, which seemed to imply skinchanging powers.
The Boltons may have originally been almost hero-like figures, trying to wipe out the "skinchangers" for holding abhorrent powers; who is to say the Kings of Winter, if they had skinchanging powers, were not skinchanging humans as they saw fit?
This might actually explain Roose' comment:
“My squire could take a lesson from you, it would seem. Frequent leechings are the secret of a long life. A man must purge himself of bad blood. You will do, I think. For so long as I remain at Harrenhal, Nan, you shall be my cupbearer, and serve me at table and in chambers.”
[...]
“I know.” Lord Bolton sighed. “His blood is bad. He needs to be leeched. The leeches suck away the bad blood, all the rage and pain. No man can think so full of anger. Ramsay, though … his tainted blood would poison even leeches, I fear.”
It is often said that one who isn't full of rage and "in control" is "cool".
Roose might be trying to literally remove remaining "skinchanger" blood, or the opposite; leech away the non-skinchanger blood, because he has come to learn of the past and wants to reclaim the original skinchanging power his family may once have had. He didn't kill Ramsay because he saw the child had "his eyes".
One way or another, we suddenly have a few Stark kids who definitely have skinchanging powers. I wonder why now; one of them isn't even Catelyn's son, so it can't be due to something in her blood.
Just some thoughts, any comments welcomed!
tldr: King of Winter->Last Hero->Night's King->Brandon the BreakeAzor Ahai. Kings of Winter were either trying to wipe out skinchangers, or wanted all the skinchanging power for themselves.

Teething? He still has lots of teeth coming through. Him holding our hand is normal, he puts a decent amount of pressure.. never drawing blood.
So tonight he’s doing his normal, plus trying to play.. but crying at the same time.
Anyone experience this? I have a lagotto and I’ve heard of the puppies getting adult teeth pretty late. I felt an adult tooth just popping out of his gum earlier today too

I'm trying to run any of the 5 Touhou games on SNESC using NP2Kai, i've been fiddling with the different CPU settings to no avail. Touhou 1 barely runs, getting slowdown every time a number even shows up on the screen. I know the SNESC is better than this, how do I make these games run at full speed?

My buddy and I bought a 2000 RAV4 this weekend. Its got 222,000 miles and its a manual that's missing 5th gear, but other than that it's perfectly sound. We're looking to run it in the Gambler 500 next year.
Does anyone know of some fun upgrades that I can use, some thing random like "the springs from a 95 Tacoma fit perfectly and give you a 4" lift" or something like that? Any other gambler-esque ideas would be much appreciated.
For those unfamiliar, here are some good examples of what the Gambler 500 is:
